The board is carved from one piece of beech into a full circle 23.6″ / 60 cm across, the checkered field floats in the middle in deep red and cream, and the rim around it carries a hand-carved textured border with the ranks and files cut into the wood. The pieces match — 32 hand-carved figures painted red and white, so the whole set reads as one object from across the room.

Open the bronze clasps and the two halves swing apart to a black velvet-lined compartment where every piece has a place. A handmade wooden chess set that is also a piece of colour on the table — for the player who already owns a brown board and wants something people will ask about, and for a room that could use a little red.

Specifications

Size: 60 cm / 23.6″ diameter

Material: beech wood, hand-carved, painted red and white and varnished

Style: round board, hand-carved textured border, carved coordinates

Hardware: cast-bronze hinges and clasps

Handmade by Hrachya Ohanyan

What's Included

Round folding chess board with bronze hinges and clasps, velvet-lined piece compartment

32 hand-carved chess pieces made from beech and walnut wood, painted red and white, with velvet bases

Branded carrying bag

Why You'll Love It

Round, and red: a shape and a colour nobody expects on a chess board — it becomes the object in the room.

Carved by hand, not stamped: the textured rim and the coordinates are cut into the beech in the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop, then painted and varnished.

Everything has a home: the board folds shut over a velvet compartment for the pieces, and the whole set goes into its own bag.

Good to Know Before You Buy

How big is it? The round board is 23.6″ / 60 cm across, with a standard 8 × 8 field in the middle — a full-size board, comfortable for two players.

Is the colour paint or stain? The board and pieces are painted red and white over the carved beech, then varnished, so the colour is even and the carving still shows through on the rim.

What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200).
