The frame is carved in the workshop's classic outline — a deep dotted texture that catches the light, a scalloped edge around the squares, and small cast-bronze studs marking the ranks and files along the border. Slip it into a bag and it goes wherever the evening takes you.

Open the bronze clasp and the same board becomes a handmade backgammon set: carved points, a carved wheel ornament in the centre of each half, and checkers in light and dark wood. A small chess and backgammon set, but a real one — the full game, the same carving and the same hardware as the large boards, made for the café table, the train seat and the summer house.

Specifications

Size: 30 × 30 cm / 11.8″ × 11.8″

Material: beech wood, hand-carved and varnished

Style: classic outline, hand-carved textured frame, carved backgammon points and wheel ornaments

Hardware: cast-bronze hinges, clasp and coordinate studs

Handmade by Hrachya Ohanyan

What's Included

Chess and backgammon board with bronze hinges and clasp

32 hand-carved chess pieces made from beech and walnut wood, with velvet bases

32 checkers made from beech and walnut wood

Dice set

Branded carrying bag

Why You'll Love It

Made for travel: a small, portable chess set — at 30 cm it fits a backpack, a suitcase or a drawer, and it opens in seconds wherever you sit down.

Two games in one board: chess on the outside, backgammon inside — the pieces and checkers ride along in the closed board.

Carved by hand, not stamped: the textured frame, the points and the wheel ornaments are cut into the wood in the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop, exactly as on the full-size sets.

Good to Know Before You Buy

Is 30 cm big enough to play properly? Yes — it is the classic travel size, comfortable for two players with the included pieces. It is the board for someone who wants the craft to speak on its own — and to take it along.

About the Artist - Hrachya Ohanyan

In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking.
