A round scroll ornament in high relief on each cover, the whole board painted deep green with black in the hollows and a scalloped contour edge. This is the 60 cm / 23.6″ wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan. Handmade in beech under the green, with 32 checkers, dice cut from billiard balls and a branded carrying case.

This is the board for the room with the velvet sofa, the collector who has enough brown, and anyone who wants their nardi to be noticed. The ornament is a wheel of curling leaves and scrolls round a domed centre, carved deep enough that the green catches on every ridge and the black stays in the shadows; the cartouche around it is a fine lattice, and the same ornament repeats on the back cover.

Inside, a green field with points drawn in line, a wheel ornament on each half and a cast hinge on the bar; the checkers are white and green to match. For a housewarming, a big birthday, or the player who wants one board nobody else has.

Is the carving real? Yes. The scroll ornament on each cover is carved in high relief from the solid beech, the lattice cartouches and rope borders are cut into the lid, and the wheel ornaments inside are carved too. The green is paint with black shading, under varnish. Nothing is printed.
