Wooden Chess Set Classic Folding - Handmade by Hrachya Ohanyan
Light squares, dark walnut, and nothing in the way of the game — this classic folding chess set is handcrafted by National Master Hrachya Ohanyan from two noble woods that give the board its natural two-tone contrast, with the coordinates engraved into the slim border. A wooden chess set with pieces that feel substantial in the hand, made for hours of comfortable play.
The 15.7" / 40 cm board opens to a full playing field and closes on brass clasps into its own felt-lined case — a handmade chess set that lives happily on a shelf and travels just as happily to game night. Serious players will notice the detail that matters: an extra queen per side, ready for the day a pawn goes all the way.

Classic Never Ages
Fashions in chess design come and go, but a classic wooden chess set outlasts them all. When the squares are clear and the pieces sit right, the game takes over — and this board is built for exactly that, evening after evening, year after year.
About the Master - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. The workshop creates classic, carved and original models from high-quality raw materials - each set a work of art admired both locally and internationally.
14 Levels, Up to 200 Days
Every chess model passes through 14 distinct phases of production: 14 separate craftsmen make their mark on a piece of wood until it reaches its perfected form in the showrooms of Hrachya Ohanyan - a distinguished visual and qualitative experience for those who appreciate true wood artistry.
A Gift That Lasts Generations
A handmade classic chess set is a gift that never expires - for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or under the Christmas tree. Two-tone wood, master craftsmanship, and a folding board ready to travel: it will be played, displayed and passed on.

Frequently asked questions
What products do you make?
Handmade chess sets, backgammon boards and chess tables, carved by hand in Armenia.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you in Armenia, most of them in master carver Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop in Yerevan. That is why each one takes 1–2 weeks to make.
Do you ship worldwide from Armenia?
Yes. Shipping is free to the US, Canada and all of Europe; other countries pay a flat $100 for tracked delivery, and Brazil, Chile and New Zealand pay $200, always tracked and insured. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you, so it takes 1–2 weeks to make. Delivery then takes about 7–9 business days to the US, Canada, Europe and the UK; other regions may take a little longer. Orders over $600 travel by express courier with signature. Tables go by insured furniture freight and arrive about 2–4 weeks after they are finished.
Will I pay customs duties?
US and EU orders are delivered duties paid, so there is nothing more to pay on arrival. For other countries, import fees depend on local rules; write to us and we will help you estimate them.
What is your return policy?
You can return any order within 30 days of delivery, for any reason, worldwide. Faulty or damaged items return free; for change-of-mind returns the item must be unused in its original packaging and you cover return shipping. EU and UK customers also keep their full statutory rights, including a 14-day withdrawal right.
Can I talk to someone before I buy?
Yes. Call or message us on WhatsApp at +374 41 777 882 for a personal consultation about any piece. We are happy to send more photos, help with size and engraving, and answer any question.
Do you accept custom orders?
Yes. Tell us what you have in mind on WhatsApp (+374 41 777 882) or at contact@lionlaurel.com, and we will talk through the size, wood and engraving with you.
What materials do you use?
Mostly solid beech and walnut, carved by hand. Some boards add epoxy resin, amber stones or bronze details; each product page lists its own materials.
Is payment secure?
Yes. You pay through Shopify's secure checkout with all major cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
