Armenian Chess Set Mount Ararat - Handmade by Hrachya Ohanyan
This Armenian chess set says exactly where it comes from: ARMENIA is engraved in bold capitals across the top of the board, beneath a fully sculpted Mount Ararat that rises out of the wood in deep relief along the edge. Grape clusters and pomegranates - the oldest symbols of Armenian abundance - are carved into the corners around the playing field.
National Master Hrachya Ohanyan makes each 30 cm / 11.8" board by hand. Compact enough for a desk or a shelf, it folds shut with the hand-turned pieces stored on felt inside.
What's Included
- Folding wooden chess board with felt-lined piece storage
- Hand-carved wooden chess pieces
- Parts Guarantee - if you ever need replacement pieces, it's easy to restore your set with LionLaurel

Why This Chess Set Is Special
- ARMENIA engraved across the board - the rare set that carries its homeland by name
- Mount Ararat sculpted in deep relief along the edge, not just drawn on the surface
- Grape and pomegranate carvings in the corners
- Created by National Master Hrachya Ohanyan, whose work is collected worldwide
A Board That Names Its Home
Most boards hint at where they were made; this one declares it. The word ARMENIA carved beneath the sculpted slopes of Ararat makes this a favorite of the Armenian diaspora and of collectors who want the country itself on the table - the mountain of Noah's Ark, and the name of the land that has carved it for generations.
About the Master - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. The workshop creates classic and original models from high-quality raw materials - each set a work of art admired both locally and internationally.
14 Levels, Up to 200 Days
Every chess model passes through 14 distinct phases of production: 14 separate craftsmen make their mark on a piece of wood until it reaches its perfected form in the showrooms of Hrachya Ohanyan - a distinguished visual and qualitative experience for those who appreciate true wood artistry.
A Gift That Lasts Generations
A handmade Armenian chess set is a gift that never expires - for weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, or under the Christmas tree. Solid wood, master craftsmanship and the name ARMENIA under Ararat: it will be played, displayed and passed on.

Frequently asked questions
What products do you make?
Handmade chess sets, backgammon boards and chess tables, carved by hand in Armenia.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you in Armenia, most of them in master carver Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop in Yerevan. That is why each one takes 1–2 weeks to make.
Do you ship worldwide from Armenia?
Yes. Shipping is free to the US, Canada and all of Europe; other countries pay a flat $100 for tracked delivery, and Brazil, Chile and New Zealand pay $200, always tracked and insured. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you, so it takes 1–2 weeks to make. Delivery then takes about 7–9 business days to the US, Canada, Europe and the UK; other regions may take a little longer. Orders over $600 travel by express courier with signature. Tables go by insured furniture freight and arrive about 2–4 weeks after they are finished.
Will I pay customs duties?
US and EU orders are delivered duties paid, so there is nothing more to pay on arrival. For other countries, import fees depend on local rules; write to us and we will help you estimate them.
What is your return policy?
You can return any order within 30 days of delivery, for any reason, worldwide. Faulty or damaged items return free; for change-of-mind returns the item must be unused in its original packaging and you cover return shipping. EU and UK customers also keep their full statutory rights, including a 14-day withdrawal right.
Can I talk to someone before I buy?
Yes. Call or message us on WhatsApp at +374 41 777 882 for a personal consultation about any piece. We are happy to send more photos, help with size and engraving, and answer any question.
Do you accept custom orders?
Yes. Tell us what you have in mind on WhatsApp (+374 41 777 882) or at contact@lionlaurel.com, and we will talk through the size, wood and engraving with you.
What materials do you use?
Mostly solid beech and walnut, carved by hand. Some boards add epoxy resin, amber stones or bronze details; each product page lists its own materials.
Is payment secure?
Yes. You pay through Shopify's secure checkout with all major cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
