The whole case is covered in fine hand-carving, corner to corner, and underneath the 23.6" / 60 cm playing field sits a built-in storage box that takes every piece. That combination is the point: a chess set with storage usually means a plain box with a board on top, and this is the opposite — a carved object that happens to hold its own army.

At this size it plays properly. The squares are wide enough for full-size pieces, nothing is cramped in a crowded middlegame, and because everything lives inside the board there is nothing to fetch, unpack or lose. You lift the lid, set up, and play. When you stop, it goes back to being furniture rather than a job to tidy away.

Every model from this workshop passes through fourteen separate stages and as much as two hundred days of work, a different craftsman at each one. On a piece carved this densely you can see exactly where that time went — in the places nobody would have checked.

Every model passes through fourteen distinct phases of production. Fourteen separate craftsmen leave their mark on one piece of wood before it reaches its finished form — which is the honest reason a board like this takes the better part of a year.
