Luxury Walnut Chess & Backgammon Set Mount Ararat with Bronze Pieces - by Hrachya Ohanyan
This is the basket-weave board at its most ceremonial. The 60 cm walnut board is carved edge to edge in the woven pattern, its rim shaped in scallops with Mount Ararat sculpted in pale relief along one edge, and the chessboard framed by a ring of bronze studs. The pieces are the crown of the set: turned wood bodies in light and dark, each finished with cast bronze crowns and detail. Chess plays on the outside; open the board and the backgammon field is inside.
What's Included

Why This Set Is Special
- Wood and bronze chess pieces - the workshop's most formal army
- The weave is carved into the walnut itself - no two boards are ever identical
- Mount Ararat sculpted in relief, not printed or drawn
- Two games in one board: chess on top, backgammon inside
- Created by National Master Hrachya Ohanyan, whose work is collected worldwide
Woven in Wood
Carpet weavers and wood carvers have passed ornamental patterns from generation to generation - braids and geometric fields that scholars trace back centuries. This board translates that textile heritage into carved walnut, and crowns it in bronze.
About the Master - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. The workshop creates classic and original models from high-quality raw materials - each set a work of art admired both locally and internationally. Read the story of master Hrachya Ohanyan.
14 Levels, Up to 200 Days
Every chess model passes through 14 distinct phases of production: 14 separate craftsmen make their mark on a piece of wood until it reaches its perfected form in the showrooms of Hrachya Ohanyan - a distinguished visual and qualitative experience for those who appreciate true wood artistry.
A Luxury Gift That Lasts Generations
A handmade walnut chess and backgammon set is a luxury gift that never expires - for weddings, anniversaries, and the occasions under the Christmas tree that deserve bronze. It will be played, displayed and passed on.

Frequently asked questions
What products do you make?
Handmade chess sets, backgammon boards and chess tables, carved by hand in Armenia.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you in Armenia, most of them in master carver Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop in Yerevan. That is why each one takes 1–2 weeks to make.
Do you ship worldwide from Armenia?
Yes. Shipping is free to the US, Canada and all of Europe; other countries pay a flat $100 for tracked delivery, and Brazil, Chile and New Zealand pay $200, always tracked and insured. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you, so it takes 1–2 weeks to make. Delivery then takes about 7–9 business days to the US, Canada, Europe and the UK; other regions may take a little longer. Orders over $600 travel by express courier with signature. Tables go by insured furniture freight and arrive about 2–4 weeks after they are finished.
Will I pay customs duties?
US and EU orders are delivered duties paid, so there is nothing more to pay on arrival. For other countries, import fees depend on local rules; write to us and we will help you estimate them.
What is your return policy?
You can return any order within 30 days of delivery, for any reason, worldwide. Faulty or damaged items return free; for change-of-mind returns the item must be unused in its original packaging and you cover return shipping. EU and UK customers also keep their full statutory rights, including a 14-day withdrawal right.
Can I talk to someone before I buy?
Yes. Call or message us on WhatsApp at +374 41 777 882 for a personal consultation about any piece. We are happy to send more photos, help with size and engraving, and answer any question.
Do you accept custom orders?
Yes. Tell us what you have in mind on WhatsApp (+374 41 777 882) or at contact@lionlaurel.com, and we will talk through the size, wood and engraving with you.
What materials do you use?
Mostly solid beech and walnut, carved by hand. Some boards add epoxy resin, amber stones or bronze details; each product page lists its own materials.
Is payment secure?
Yes. You pay through Shopify's secure checkout with all major cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
