Luxury Wooden Backgammon Set Hand Carved - Peacock, by Hrachya Ohanyan
A peacock spreads its tail across the cover of this board, carved into the wood inside an arched frame, every feather cut by hand and set against a fine lattice ground that catches the light from any angle. It is the kind of luxury wooden backgammon set that people notice before the game starts — the one guests pick up, turn over, and ask about. Made by National Master Hrachya Ohanyan from a single piece of wood, 23.6″ / 60 cm across.
Open the cast-bronze clasps and the board unfolds to a full 23.6″ / 60 cm board, carved from the same block: two wheel ornaments in the centre of the halves and light and dark points running to the edges. Thirty-two checkers in light and dark wood, dice, and a black carrying bag are inside. A handmade backgammon set built for Friday nights, long summer evenings and the friend who thinks they can beat you — and a nardi board to hand down when the arguing is done.

Why You'll Love It
- A peacock carved by hand: the tail feathers, the arched frame and the lattice ground are all cut into the wood in the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop — no two boards come out the same.
- One piece of wood: the board and its carved surface are worked from a single block, so it sits flat, closes true and will still do so in twenty years.
- Ready for the table: full-size 23.6″ / 60 cm board, checkers in light and dark wood, dice and a bag — open the box and play.
Good to Know Before You Buy
How big is it? Open, the board is 23.6″ / 60 cm square — the standard full size for a living-room table. Closed, it is 23.6″ × 11.8″ / 60 × 30 cm and stands on its own.
Is the surface carved or printed? Carved. The points and the two wheel ornaments are cut into the wood by hand and sealed with natural beeswax, so the surface stays smooth for the checkers and only gets better with use.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns.
Can I add a name or a date? Yes — choose the engraving option on this page and tell us the text. A name, a date or a few words turns it into a personalized backgammon set, and it is the detail people remember years later.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store it closed in the bag.
The Peacock
Cultures from India to the Mediterranean have kept the peacock as a symbol of grace, beauty and long life — in the old saying, a rainbow that came alive. Carvers love it for the same reason players do: the fan of feathers gives the chisel a hundred small shapes to work, and the finished bird changes with every shift of the light. On this board it is the first thing you see and the last thing you put away.
About the Artist - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. Every board passes through 14 stages of production, with 14 separate craftsmen leaving their mark before it reaches its finished form — a piece of wood artistry admired both in Armenia and around the world. A Gift That Lasts Generations
A hand-carved wooden backgammon set is the backgammon gift set for a wedding, an anniversary, a milestone birthday or the person who already has everything — and the one we send most often at Christmas and on Father's Day. Solid wood, a master's carving and a game played for five thousand years: it will be opened, played and passed on.
Frequently asked questions
What products do you make?
Handmade chess sets, backgammon boards and chess tables, carved by hand in Armenia.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you in Armenia, most of them in master carver Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop in Yerevan. That is why each one takes 1–2 weeks to make.
Do you ship worldwide from Armenia?
Yes. Shipping is free to the US, Canada and all of Europe; other countries pay a flat $100 for tracked delivery, and Brazil, Chile and New Zealand pay $200, always tracked and insured. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you, so it takes 1–2 weeks to make. Delivery then takes about 7–9 business days to the US, Canada, Europe and the UK; other regions may take a little longer. Orders over $600 travel by express courier with signature. Tables go by insured furniture freight and arrive about 2–4 weeks after they are finished.
Will I pay customs duties?
US and EU orders are delivered duties paid, so there is nothing more to pay on arrival. For other countries, import fees depend on local rules; write to us and we will help you estimate them.
