This is the Hrachya Ohanyan classic in its travel size: a hand-carved wooden chess set that closes to 11.8″ / 30 cm, with a full backgammon board waiting inside. The frame is carved in the workshop's classic outline — a deep dotted texture that catches the light, a scalloped edge around the squares, and small cast-bronze studs marking the ranks and files along the border. Slip it into a bag and it goes wherever the evening takes you.

Open the bronze clasp and the same board becomes a handmade backgammon set: carved points, a carved wheel ornament in the centre of each half, and checkers in light and dark wood. A small chess and backgammon set, but a real one — the full game, the same carving and the same hardware as the large boards, made for the café table, the train seat and the summer house.

In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking.
