The $100 bill carved in relief across both covers of walnut — Franklin's portrait and serial number on the front, Independence Hall on the back. This is the 60 cm / 23.6″ luxury wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan, classic outline, two-sided. Handmade in walnut with hornbeam inlay, 32 checkers, dice cut from billiard balls and a branded case.

This is the board for the trader's office, the man who says money talks, and the player who wants a lid that gets a laugh before the first roll. Franklin looks out of his oval with the cross-hatched shading of the engraving, the serial number runs along the top, 100s stand up in every corner and ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS in raised letters along the foot. Turn it over and the back of the note is there too — Independence Hall under IN GOD WE TRUST — square-cornered like the bill.

Inside, the walnut is left natural and the points are inlaid in pale hornbeam with fleur-de-lys tips, a petal wheel on a pale disc in a scrolled ring on each half, an ornate cast hinge on the bar. For the office with the ticker on the wall, the poker night, and the player who wants the bill on both covers and real walnut underneath.

Is the note carved or printed on? Carved. The whole face of the bill — portrait, lettering, seal, serial number — is cut in relief into the walnut, and the back of the note into the other cover; the fine shading behind Franklin is cross-hatching cut with a tool. The pale points and discs inside are hornbeam let into the walnut, not paint. The wood is unstained and finished with natural beeswax; nothing is printed or applied.
