Wooden Backgammon Set - Coat of Arms of Argentina, Medium, by Hrachya Ohanyan
The arms of Argentina at coffee-table size: the clasped hands on the pike, the cap of liberty, the Sun of May and the laurel wreath, worked into the cover in pale wood against the dark ground inside a carved rope ring. Around the oval master Hrachya Ohanyan cut a stippled arch, a fine lattice frame and a rope border, and kept the outline classic — square, stepped, calm. A handmade wooden backgammon set from a single piece of wood at 19.6″ / 50 cm, the size that plays like the big board and still fits the shelf.
Undo the cast-bronze clasps and a 19.6″ / 50 cm hand-carved backgammon board opens up: a carved wheel ornament at the heart of each half, pale points tipped with small carved flourishes, and the deep grain of the board running through it all. Thirty-two checkers in light and dark wood, a dice set and the branded carrying case come with it. This is the nardi board for the Argentine table — the one that comes out after the asado, when the mate is going round and nobody wants to go home.

Why You'll Love It
- The arms, done by hand: the emblem is cut into the wood and finished in two tones in the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop, and the rope ring and lattice around it are carved — no two boards come out the same.
- The in-between size: 19.6″ / 50 cm is the board that lives on the coffee table and still plays like the full-size one — the size most people wish they had bought first.
- Ready for the table: checkers in light and dark wood, dice and a carrying case — open it and play.
Good to Know Before You Buy
How big is it? Open, the board is 19.6″ / 50 cm square — one step below the full 60 cm size, and the right choice for a smaller table. Closed, it is 19.6″ × 9.8″ / 50 × 25 cm and stands on its own edge.
Is the emblem printed? No. The arms are cut into the wood by hand and finished in two tones, and the frame around them is carved — run a finger across the cover and you feel every line.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns.
Can I add a name or a date? Yes — choose the engraving option on this page and tell us the text. A name or a date turns it into a personalized backgammon set, and it is the detail people remember years later.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store it closed in the case.
The Arms of Argentina
Adopted in 1813, the coat of arms of Argentina says everything in one oval: two hands clasped in unity hold up a pike, and on the pike sits the Phrygian cap — the old sign of freedom. The Sun of May rises over the top, the same sun that shines on the flag, and the laurel around it stands for victory. Argentina has one of the largest Armenian communities in the world, and there are many tables in Buenos Aires and Córdoba where a nardi board with these arms on the cover will feel entirely at home.
About the Artist - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. Every board passes through 14 stages of production, with 14 separate craftsmen leaving their mark before it reaches its finished form — a piece of wood artistry admired both in Armenia and around the world. A Gift That Lasts Generations
For an Argentine friend abroad, a first apartment or the father who still argues about the '86 final, a handmade wooden backgammon set with the arms of Argentina on the cover is the backgammon gift set with the country built in. We send it at Christmas, on Father's Day and for the 9th of July. It gets opened, played and passed on.
