Luxury Pomegranate Tree Walnut Backgammon Set with Contour Outline by Hrachya Ohanyan
A pomegranate tree in one colour — trunk, curling branches, leaves and round fruit in deep teal resin — set flush into a smooth walnut disc on a lid with scrolled edges. This is the 60 cm / 23.6″ luxury Armenian wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan, contour outline. Handmade in walnut, 32 checkers, dice and a branded case.
This is the board for the Armenian dining room and the player who wants the pomegranate tree in a single quiet colour rather than green and red. The tree is cut shallow into the walnut and poured: one teal that reads near-black in the trunk and blue-green in the leaves, each pomegranate a solid drop with its little crown, on a disc left smooth so the grain shows through. A rope-and-bead ring frames it; either side, cusped panels of chip-carved star stipple, then diamond lattice to the curled corners.
Open, the walnut is bare and the game is line work — cross-hatched points under fleur-de-lys tips, a petal wheel in a scrolled ring on each half — with a stamped brass hinge on the bar; on the back, two eternity whirls in line on stippled discs. For the engagement, the house with the pomegranate on the gate, and the player who wants the symbol without the colour shouting.

Why You'll Love It
- One colour, one tree: the whole tree — trunk, leaves and fruit — is poured in a single deep teal, so it reads as a silhouette on the walnut rather than a picture, and the grain of the disc shows through around it.
- Carved edge to edge: star stipple, diamond lattice and rope borders run out to the scrolled contour shoulders, so the smooth disc sits in a lid that is worked everywhere else.
- Make it theirs: add a name or a date at checkout to mark a birthday, a retirement or years of games together.
Good to Know Before You Buy
Is the tree carved or inlaid? Poured. The tree is cut as a shallow hollow into the walnut disc — every branch, leaf and pomegranate — then filled with deep teal epoxy, left to cure, and sanded flush and polished so disc and tree are one level surface. The stipple and lattice around it are chip-carved by hand, the inside is cut in line work, and the board is varnished. Nothing is printed or applied.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns policy.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth and store it closed in its carrying case.
