Luxury Wooden Backgammon Set - Wild Horses, Hand-Carved by Hrachya Ohanyan
Two horses run flat out across the cover, manes flying, hooves off the ground, carved so deep that the light slides along their backs as you walk past. They sit inside a round carved frame on a ground of fine lattice, with braided borders and arched panels on either side. Closed, it is a piece of sculpture in warm honey-coloured wood that lives on a sideboard. Open, it is a full-size handmade backgammon set built for long evenings of nardi.
Inside, the playing field is lacquered wood with pale inlaid points that glow against the darker ground, a carved sun ornament in the centre of each half, and bronze hinges and clasps that click shut. The checkers come in light and dark wood, turned with a stepped rim so they sit flat and slide clean along the points. Everything travels in the black carrying bag with a wooden handle.
This is the kind of luxury backgammon set people buy once. It gets played, it gets shown to guests, and it gets handed down.

Good to Know Before You Buy
Is 60 cm the right size? It is the largest standard size we make and the one most people choose for a home table — two adults play comfortably and the carving is meant to be seen across the room. If you need something smaller for travel or a small flat, look at our 50 cm and 40 cm boards.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store it closed in the bag. The lacquered wood needs nothing else.
The Horses
In the highlands the horse has always meant freedom — the animal that carried shepherds, messengers and kings across the mountains. Two running together is the old image of companionship and shared strength, which is why this board is so often chosen as a wedding or anniversary gift. Carved the old way, by hand, from the wood itself, the pair keeps running for as long as the board is played.
About the Artist - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. Every board passes through 14 stages of production, with 14 separate craftsmen leaving their mark before it reaches its finished form — a piece of wood artistry admired both in Armenia and around the world. A Gift That Outlasts the Occasion
A hand-carved backgammon set is a gift for a wedding, a milestone birthday, a new home or a father who already has everything — played for decades and passed on with the story of who gave it.
Frequently asked questions
What products do you make?
Handmade chess sets, backgammon boards and chess tables, carved by hand in Armenia.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you in Armenia, most of them in master carver Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop in Yerevan. That is why each one takes 1–2 weeks to make.
Do you ship worldwide from Armenia?
Yes. Shipping is free to the US, Canada and all of Europe; other countries pay a flat $100 for tracked delivery, and Brazil, Chile and New Zealand pay $200, always tracked and insured. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you, so it takes 1–2 weeks to make. Delivery then takes about 7–9 business days to the US, Canada, Europe and the UK; other regions may take a little longer. Orders over $600 travel by express courier with signature. Tables go by insured furniture freight and arrive about 2–4 weeks after they are finished.
Will I pay customs duties?
US and EU orders are delivered duties paid, so there is nothing more to pay on arrival. For other countries, import fees depend on local rules; write to us and we will help you estimate them.
What is your return policy?
You can return any order within 30 days of delivery, for any reason, worldwide. Faulty or damaged items return free; for change-of-mind returns the item must be unused in its original packaging and you cover return shipping. EU and UK customers also keep their full statutory rights, including a 14-day withdrawal right.
