Eternity Sign Walnut Backgammon Set in Beeswax Finish, Classic Outline by Hrachya Ohanyan
Walnut, unstained and finished with beeswax, with the eternity sign carved up out of it: a whirl of raised curved blades in a beaded ring, honeycomb and lattice around. This is the 60 cm / 23.6″ Armenian wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan, classic outline. Handmade in walnut, with 32 wooden checkers, dice cut from billiard balls and a branded carrying case.
This is the board for the person who wants the sign in real walnut with a soft, hand-rubbed surface — darker grain, warmer glow, no stain and no gloss. The whirl is carved in full depth, each blade rising from the hollow centre to the rim so the sign turns in light and shadow as you walk past; a beaded ring closes it, cusped panels of fine honeycomb stipple sit either side, diamond lattice fills the corners and rope borders run to the moulded rim. The back carries the same lattice with two smaller whirls.
Inside it is all walnut too: the points drawn in line work and cross-hatched rather than stained, a wheel ornament in a scrolled ring on each half, and an ornate bronze hinge on the bar. For the study with the walnut desk, the Armenian who collects the sign in every material, and the player who wants the grain to show and the wood to feel like wood.

Why You'll Love It
- Walnut, not stain: the colour is the wood itself — the grain runs through the whirl and the lattice alike, and it deepens with the years.
- Beeswax, not gloss: the surface is rubbed with natural beeswax, so the board is matt, warm to the hand and easy to refresh with a cloth — the lacquered sister board is the one with the shine.
- Make it theirs: add a name or a date at checkout to mark a birthday, a retirement or years of games together.
Good to Know Before You Buy
Is the carving real? Yes. The whirl is carved in full relief into the walnut, blade by blade, and the honeycomb stipple, lattice, beaded ring and rope borders are cut into the same lid. It is finished with natural beeswax, not stained or lacquered; nothing is printed, cast or applied.
How does this differ from the lacquered eternity board? Same pattern, same walnut, same price — the difference is the finish. This one is rubbed with beeswax and stays matt; the other is lacquered and gloss. Choose by the room: beeswax for a soft, furniture-like surface, lacquer for shine and a harder skin.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns policy.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators. Wipe with a dry, soft cloth, refresh the surface with a little beeswax polish now and then, and store it closed in its carrying case.
