Classic Wooden Backgammon Set in Dark Wood, by Hrachya Ohanyan
Less on the outside, more on the inside. This classic backgammon set keeps its cover completely plain — one piece of beech stained a deep chestnut brown, the grain running long under a clear varnish, a clean square outline and two bronze clasps — and saves the work for the moment you open it. Master Hrachya Ohanyan makes it for the person who plays nardi every week and wants a handmade wooden backgammon set that sits quietly on the sideboard between games. The full 23.6″ / 60 cm, and nothing on the lid you will ever tire of.
Undo the clasps and the 23.6″ / 60 cm wooden backgammon board earns its keep: a wheel ornament in a scrolled ring worked into each half, points alternating pale wood and dark, tipped with fleur-de-lys flourishes, a carved scalloped frame round the field and ornate bronze hinges on the centre bar. Thirty-two checkers in light and dark wood, a dice set and the branded carrying case come with it. This is the handmade backgammon board for the club, the office and the family that plays for real — the one you buy twice, because someone always keeps the first.

Good to Know Before You Buy
How big is it? Open, the board is 23.6″ / 60 cm square — the standard full size for a living-room table. Closed, it is 23.6″ × 11.8″ / 60 × 30 cm and stands on its own edge.
Is the cover really plain? Yes — on purpose. The outside is chestnut-stained beech under a clear varnish with no carving or decoration. Inside, the wheel ornaments and the points are worked into the wood and the scalloped frame round the field is carved.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns.
Can I add a name or a date? Yes — choose the engraving option on this page and tell us the text. A name or a date turns it into a personalized backgammon set, and it is the detail people remember years later.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store it closed in the case.
The Working Board
In every Armenian courtyard there is one nardi board that does all the work — the plain one, dark from years of hands, that comes out first and goes back last. It never needed a picture on the lid; the players were the picture. The workshop builds this one to be that board: the same joinery, hardware and finishing as its carved sets, with a cover that stays out of the way and an inside that has been made properly.
About the Artist - Hrachya Ohanyan
In 1985, National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine wood craft, introducing a new approach to the age-old traditions of woodworking. After many years of dedication, the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop was established in 2010. Every board passes through 14 stages of production, with 14 separate craftsmen leaving their mark before it reaches its finished form — a piece of wood artistry admired both in Armenia and around the world. A Gift That Lasts Generations
For a nardi player who already has an opinion, a first anniversary, a grandfather who says he does not need anything, or the club that lost its old board to the rain, a classic handmade backgammon set in dark wood is the backgammon gift set that will be in use the same evening. We send it at Christmas and on Father's Day. It gets opened, played and passed on.
Frequently asked questions

Handmade chess sets, backgammon boards and chess tables, carved by hand in Armenia.
Are your products handmade?
Yes. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you in Armenia, most of them in master carver Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop in Yerevan. That is why each one takes 1–2 weeks to make.
Do you ship worldwide from Armenia?
Yes. Shipping is free to the US, Canada and all of Europe; other countries pay a flat $100 for tracked delivery, and Brazil, Chile and New Zealand pay $200, always tracked and insured. Every piece is handmade and handcrafted for you, so it takes 1–2 weeks to make.
