Four leaf-tipped loops weave over and under each other at the centre, on a ground carved to look like woven basket. This is the 60 cm / 23.6″ luxury wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan — classic outline, carved on every face. Handmade in beech, with 32 wooden checkers, dice cut from billiard balls and a branded carrying case.

This is the board you buy once. Almost nothing on the lid is left plain: the knot stands in relief over a basket weave with every strand raised, a beaded ring closes it, and outside the ring four big acanthus leaves curl into the corners over diamond lattice. Even the rim carries a carved border. Turn it over and the back is worked too, with acanthus scrolls at either side.

Inside it is the full game — pale and dark points tipped with fleur-de-lys, a wheel ornament in a scrolled ring on each half, an ornate bronze hinge on the bar. For the collector, the boardroom, and the house where the backgammon board is the object guests ask about first.

Good to Know Before You Buy

Is the carving real? Yes — all of it. The knot, the basket weave beneath it, the acanthus corners and the lattice are carved into the beech, and the border runs round the rim in the same wood. Stain and varnish go on last; nothing is printed, pressed or applied.
