A hundred-dollar bill the size of a tray. The whole front of the note is worked into the cover of this board — Benjamin Franklin's portrait, the Federal Reserve seal, the serial numbers, the fine scrolled borders and the words ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS along the bottom — in warm brown tones on natural beech, so it reads like an old banknote printed on wood. Turn the board over and the back of the note is there too, Independence Hall and all. Master Hrachya Ohanyan kept the outline classic and square and the edges stepped. A wooden backgammon set from the Ohanyan workshop for the player who likes the stakes to show.

Undo the cast-bronze clasps and a full 23.6″ / 60 cm wooden backgammon board opens up: the two seals of the note — the eagle of the Great Seal and the Federal Reserve seal — in pale roundels at the heart of each half, pale points tipped with small flourishes, and the grain of the beech running through it all. Thirty-two checkers in light and dark wood, a dice set and the branded carrying case come with it. This is the handmade backgammon board for the office, the poker room and the friend who always says "double or nothing".
