Classic Wooden Backgammon Set - Arch Outline

Classic Wooden Backgammon Set - Arch Outline, by Hrachya Ohanyan

A plain board with one idea: the curve. The top edge of this classic backgammon set bows out in a gentle arch, so the closed board sits on the table like a small vaulted door — no carving, no scene, just warm honey-stained beech with the grain running long and the arch drawn once, cleanly, along the top. Master Hrachya Ohanyan makes it for the people who want a handmade wooden backgammon set that is quiet on the outside and serious on the inside. 23.6″ / 60 cm, one piece of wood, two bronze clasps.

Undo the clasps and the 23.6″ / 60 cm wooden backgammon board shows its hand: a wheel ornament in a scrolled ring worked into each half, points in pale and dark wood tipped with fleur-de-lys flourishes, a carved scalloped edge framing the field and ornate bronze hinges on the centre bar. Thirty-two checkers in light and dark wood, a dice set and the branded carrying case come with it. This is the handmade backgammon board for the office drawer, the dacha, and the friend who plays fast and talks faster.

Why You'll Love It

• The arch does the talking: one curved edge turns a plain box into a shape you notice — the workshop's arch outline, cut into the wood itself.
• Detail where you play: wheel ornaments, pale-and-dark points and a carved scalloped frame inside give the game its setting without a single distraction on the cover.
• Ready for the table: full-size 23.6″ / 60 cm board, checkers in light and dark wood, dice and a carrying case — open it and play.

Good to Know Before You Buy

How big is it? Open, the board is 23.6″ / 60 cm square — the standard full size for a living-room table. Closed, it is 23.6″ × 11.8″ / 60 × 30 cm and stands on its own edge.

Is the cover really plain? Yes — on purpose. The outside is honey-stained beech under a clear varnish with no carving or decoration; the arch is the shape of the board itself. Inside, the wheel ornaments and the points are worked into the wood and the scalloped frame is carved.

What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns.

Can I add a name or a date? Yes — choose the engraving option on this page and tell us the text. A name or a date turns it into a personalized backgammon set, and it is the detail people remember years later.

How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store it closed in the case.

The Arch

Look at any old Armenian church door and you find the same curve — a round arch over a plain wall, the one flourish the builders allowed themselves. The workshop borrowed it for this board: one bowed edge on an otherwise classic nardi box. It is the sort of detail nobody mentions and everybody notices, and it makes the board easy to pick out on a crowded shelf.
