A plain lid — honey-brown beech, the grain and nothing else — on a board that folds to the size of a laptop, with the carving kept for the inside. This is the 40 cm / 15.7″ wooden travel backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan, classic outline. Handmade in beech, with 32 wooden checkers, dice and a carrying bag.

This is the board for the glovebox, the office drawer and the player who wants a real wooden set that goes in a bag, without a picture to protect. The lid is a single face of beech, stained honey brown and varnished, smooth to the edge; open it and the work is inside — a petal wheel of ten rounded petals cut into each half, pale drop-tipped points against the darker field, and a rope-and-bead line along the bar.

The hinge is a stamped plate, the clasp is small and brass, and there is nothing on the cover to chip in a rucksack. For the train, the campsite, the student's first set, and the couple who take a board on holiday every year.
