The Armenian alphabet poured in coloured epoxy into natural walnut — each letter its own red, blue, yellow, green or violet, scattered across the lid. This is the 60 cm / 23.6″ luxury wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan, classic outline. Handmade in walnut, with resin-filled points inside, 32 checkers, dice cut from billiard balls and a branded case.

This is the board for the Armenian school's prize table, the flat where the children are learning their letters, and the player who wants colour on the walnut instead of carving. The letters are cut into the lid and filled with epoxy resin, sanded level and polished, so every one sits flush under the hand and catches the light like glass, scarlet beside sky blue, yellow beside violet, with the plain walnut grain running between them. On the back, a blue resin quill draws its line beside more letters.

Inside, the points are filled the same way — each one a different colour of resin under a carved fleur-de-lys tip — a petal wheel in a scrolled ring, the ring filled with resin, on each half, an ornate cast hinge on the bar. For the diaspora nursery, the teacher's retirement, and the player who wants the whole alphabet on the table and the game in colour.

No. Each letter is cut into the walnut and filled with coloured epoxy resin, then the whole lid is sanded level and polished, so the letters are part of the surface — run a hand across them and you feel nothing but the finish. The points and the rings inside are filled the same way. The walnut itself is left its natural colour; nothing is painted or printed.
