This is the 50 cm / 19.6″ luxury wooden backgammon set made by Hrachya Ohanyan, classic outline, two-sided. Handmade in walnut, with resin-filled points inside, 32 checkers, dice cut from billiard balls and a branded case.

This is the board for the garden room, the friend who wanted colour on the table without paint, and the player who likes the smaller size for the sofa table. The trunks and branches are the pale walnut of the lid itself, cut through and left standing; a leaf-green resin, mottled like moss with a fine sparkle in it, is poured into every gap between them and polished level with the wood. Turn the board over and the branches run across the second cover the same way.

Inside, every point holds a drop of the same green under a carved scroll tip, the petal wheel on each half sits in a green-filled ring, and a brass hinge stamped with the maker's mark holds the bar. For the spring wedding, the house with plants in every window, and the player who wants a forest that fits a smaller table.

Good to Know Before You Buy

How does this differ from the blue trees board? Same walnut, same size, same cut-out trees on both covers — only the resin changes: a leaf-green here, mottled like moss with a fine sparkle in it, where the blue board is inky and swirled with white. The points and the rings inside are poured in the same green. The board is varnished; nothing is printed or painted.

National Master Hrachya Ohanyan began his fine woodcraft in 1985 and founded his workshop in Yerevan in 2010.
