Luxury Epoxy Backgammon Set - Branch Slices in Blue Resin, Two-Sided, by Hrachya Ohanyan
Count the rings: every disc on the lid of this luxury epoxy backgammon set is a real slice of branch — cherry-dark, honey, pale — set in translucent blue resin. Two-sided, 23.6″ / 60 cm, on a beech base from master Hrachya Ohanyan's workshop; checkers, billiard-ball dice and a case in the box.
Both outer covers are a mosaic of end-grain slices — big and small, bark still on some, growth rings showing on all — laid into blue epoxy that fills the gaps like water between stones, then levelled and polished flush with the wood. Turn it over and the other cover is the same, so there is no back. Inside, the points are poured in the same blue with scrolled tips, a wheel ornament sits at the heart of each half with blue resin in its ring, and an ornate bronze hinge joins the bar; the pale beech field is left natural. Nothing on this board is repeated on any other — the slices are whatever branches came to the workshop that month. For the loft with white walls, the design studio, and the player who has never liked brown boards. Also known as nardi (нарды), nardy, tavla or shesh besh.

Why You'll Love It
- Real wood inside the resin: those are branch cross-sections, not printed discs — every ring, knot and bark edge is a piece of a tree, set by hand in the Hrachya Ohanyan workshop.
- Two covers, no back: the mosaic runs on both outer faces, so it looks finished whichever way it lies on the table or stands on the shelf.
- Make it theirs: add a name or a date at checkout and it becomes a personalized backgammon set.
Good to Know Before You Buy
Are the branch slices real? Yes. Each one is a cross-section sawn from a real branch, dried and set into the lid, and the blue epoxy is poured around them, cured, sanded level and polished under the same varnish as the frame. Nothing is printed. Because the slices are real, the pattern of rings and bark on your board will not match the photos exactly — that is the point.
What about shipping and returns? Shipping is free to the US, Canada and Europe, always tracked; other countries pay a flat $100 (Brazil, Chile and New Zealand $200). Every set is covered by our 30-day returns.
How do I look after it? Keep it out of direct sun and away from radiators, wipe with a dry soft cloth, and store it closed in the case.
Firewood, Promoted
The carvers keep a bin of offcuts — pruned cherry, walnut, apricot, whatever the orchards around Yerevan send — and for years it went to the stove. Someone sliced a branch across the grain, saw the rings, and the bin became a material. A lid like this takes two or three hundred slices, each one turned until its rings sit right, and then the resin does what a river does: fills whatever is left.
